Will any DDR2 ram fit in my desktop’s ram slots?

My other profile is a ferrari asked:


i have a Sony Vaio VGC-RB57G desktop and it came with 1GB of ram installed and i want to extend it to 2GB. online it says my desktop uses DDR2 PC2-4200 type of ram. does that mean i have to buy that type? or Would a DDR2 PC2-6400 ram work on my desktop and fit in the slot?

   Yes it will fit since its a DDR2 and thats what your computer uses. You may not be able to use the potential of the higher speed. Your computer will just run the 6400 at 4200 speeds unless your computer will support the 6400 speed. If you use the 4200 with the 6400 your computer will run at the speed of the slowest one.
