What does the average slot machine earn per year?

I’m a California voter and I heard that each slot machine can earn over $100,000 per year. If that’s the case, then we are being screwed by the new Indian gaming propositions.

   I think it depends on the slot machine, the venue, the denominations and the house edge it is set to.

   Clearly a 1c machine in the back of a crappy casino is not going to make the same as a $100 machine in a very popular casino high stakes area.

   Also a machine may have a 1% house edge or a 20% edge depending on local laws. That house edge will affect how much it takes in per $1,000 played.

   Finally, some machines like Wheel of Fortune are more popular than some of the boring old ones.

   But at the end of the day it would not surprise me to hear that some machines can take $100,000 in a year. It doesn’t mean you are getting screwed, especially if you are the guy who wins the $12m jackpot.
